Air conditioners have three parts.  There is the compressor the evaporator and a condenser.  The condenser and the compressor are on the exterior air conditioning unit.  The evaporator is located inside and is sometimes a portion of the furnace.

Beyond that it’s a lot of fluids and gas.  The compressor takes the coolant and compresses it.  It sends it out to the condenser as a high pressured gas.

If any of these parts break down then you won’t have cool air.  They all need to be functioning properly and working together, to get you the cool air that you need.
